Day 1: Saigon - Mekong Delta (-/L/D)
We depart from Saigon at 8:00am and drive southwards to the Vinh Long Province, which is situated between two branches of the downstream Mekong River. The lusciously green and beautiful Mekong Delta is the southernmost region of Vietnam. It was formed by sediments deposited by the Mekong River, one of the great rivers of the world and known to the Vietnamese as Song Cuu Long, river of the Nine Dragons. The Mekong originates high in the Tibetan plateau, flowing 4500 km through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia before it reaches Vietnam as its final gate to the South Chinese Sea. A system of tangled river streams and canals has made the Delta a real water world.
On arrival, you enjoy a boat trip along the river’s narrow waterways, overhung with dense vegetation to see around Cai Be floating market with local people selling, buying, exchanging goods from their boats. You will also have the opportunity to walk around to see orchards, rice paper making, and rice crisp cake producing process, etc... For lunch, the local people will serve you the local delicacy - an Elephant’s-Ear fish. After that you can ride a bicycle around the village to sea locals daily activities. Continue to a bonsai garden or fruit garden, boat building workshop, coconut candy and girdle cake shop.
Tonight, you will have a dinner with the host where we will stay overnight. Evening, enjoy a traditional Mekong delta music and song, performed by the star singers of the village and even maybe your hostess. Dinner and overnight at the simple local house.
Day 2: Long Ho - Vinh Long - Saigon (B/L/-)
After breakfast with the host and the members. Continue taking a boat trip through a village to see peaceful tranquil life of villagers, admire marvelous natural setting of Mekong Delta region. We will visit Rach Long Ho (the dragon canal) and Rach Cai Ca (the fish canal) to visit arts and crafts workshop (patterned tile, soybean jam, blacksmiths, rice husking ...) and local lifestyle. Continue to Van Thanh shrine and Long Thanh (Green Dragon) Communal house. Pick up at Vinh Long boat station and drive back Saigon with a stop at Mekong rest stops for lunch. Arrive in Saigon around 3:00pm.
